أقسام الأمن التابعة للمؤسسات والمنظمات وشركات الحراسة الخاصة، ويراقبون ويفتشون المنشآت الصناعية ومباني المحلات والمكاتب والمساكن والفنادق ومنشآت الرياضة.
يقومون بانتظام بالجولات التفتيشية ويراقبون المنطقة عبر شاشات كاميرات المراقبة في غرف الحراسة. خلال الجولات التفتيشية يتحقق رجال الأمن والسلامة من صحة إغلاق الأبواب والشبابيك وتشغيل أنظمة الإنذار.
أحيانا هم مجهزون بالأسلحة النارية والهراوات والقيود لليد والغاز المسيل للدموع للقيام بالدفاع في حالة الطوارئ وللقبض على الأشخاص المشبوهين.
وفي الأحداث غير العادية مثل الإقتحامات أو نشوب الحرائق يخبرون المالكين فورا بالجهاز اللاسلكي أو الهاتف ويتخذون خطوات إضافية مثل إبلاغ الشرطة والمطافئ. عند مراقبة المناطق عن طريق الكاميرات يلاحظون عدة شاشات في نفس الوقت ويراقبون الأشخاص والأحداث على الشاشة. مهمة أخرى لرجال الأمن والسلامة تشغيل أنظمة الحواجز وفتح الأبواب.
